Welcome to the herd!
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25

Good morning
Zebras,
I am enjoying
my journey through Acts.
Acts 18:24-26: “Now
a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an
eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures. He had been instructed in the way of
the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the
things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John. He began to
speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they
took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.”
I used to tell
my kids, “If you think you already know everything, you can’t learn.” Of course, it was in reference to
homework. But it applies to spiritual
things as well.
If you think
you know everything there is to know about God, then your mind is closed and
you may be robbing yourself of all God has to offer, especially if it is closed
on the subject of The Holy Spirit.
All Apollos
knew was the baptism of John, which Paul says is the baptism of
repentance. The Bible doesn’t record
what Priscilla and Aquilla explained to Apollos, but it was probably the same
thing Paul explained to the Ephesians.
Acts 19:1-6: While
Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at
Ephesus. There he found some disciples
and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard
that there is a Holy Spirit.” So Paul
asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?” “John’s baptism,” they replied. Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of
repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is,
in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were
baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them,
the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
Repentance is
half of the Gospel but “Rebirth,” (the new life that comes with the power of
indwelling Holy Spirit,) is the rest.
I love you
Zebras, so much. If you stumble and fall
more than you walk in the Spirit, if your faith is more of a burden than a joy,
ask God if you’re missing something.
Luke 11:13: If you then, though you are evil, know how to
give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give
the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
It is the Holy
Spirit who allows us to say: “I can do all things through Him who strengthens
me.” (Phil 4:13) Jesus Christ reconciled us to God but the power of the
indweling Holy Spirit is what allows us to live it out.
Love,
JIll
