Cool Story

Acts 20:20

You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. (NIV)

Good morning ladies,

I got up this morning and told God I had nothing to say to you, because I am tired of telling you to learn and obey God’s Word. I am starting to feel like a nag.

Then God gave me the coolest story.

As I sent Gary off to work this morning I reminded him to be still and let God solve the problems he is having at work. He has a deadline on Friday but all work is shut down until they can find a part they are missing.

He looked for it yesterday with no luck.

On his drive to work this morning he turned on his radio and the song playing was “Be Still” so he called to tell me that God had just told him the same thing and he thanked me for encouraging him to listen to God.

At the risk of being seen as a nag, I told him that one of the best things about being still is that you can hear God speak more clearly, so if God brought something to his mind, no matter how unlikely, he should do it.

He just called to say they had found the part.

He was going across the bridge and he thought of a parts store that they had not tried because they never have anything they need. But because of what I said, he decided to call. They had three.

So ladies, I will continue to nag you, encourage you, challenge you, and love you. Because I know what God is capable of doing on a day to day basis and I want you to know it too.

Why Zebras?

In the summer of 2008 I was looking at a herd of zebras in a wild animal park and commented to my son that I didn’t understand why the lions didn’t just eat the zebras because their markings make them so obvious. He told me that the opposite was actually true. God has marked zebras so when they hang together in a herd, their stripes create the illusion they are one large animal and therefore too big to attack. It is the lone zebra that is usually eaten. The same is true of Christians; we must hang together and encourage each other to fight off the lions. The lone Christian is easy prey.

1 Peter 5:8
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Therefore:

Zebras was started to encourage women who desire to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, who want their lives to be transformed to honor God and who are willing to be “zebras” in a world of “horses”. Zebras exists to reassure you that you are not alone and that God has called you to be peculiar. As a peculiar person you should look different than the world

Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Zebras can stimulate healthy growth in the spiritual lives of the women in your church too. I was with you in the beginning meetings of the herd and watched it evolve into a place where we as sisters in Christ could share our burdens without judgment.
