Welcome to the herd!
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25

God is Good
Psalm 119:68
You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees. (NIV)
Good morning ladies,
Looking at the headlines of today’s paper many people will question whether God is really good. How can a good God allow…
It is easier for me when the destruction and hurt is caused by men. After the Fall, evil lurks in the hearts of men and then God gave us free choice. King Solomon came to the same conclusion because he wrote in the book of Ecclesiastes the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil and insanity is in their hearts throughout their lives.
But natural disasters are more difficult. US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton described the damage in Haiti as “biblical” I wonder what she means by that.
In the Old Testament God brought destruction on the nation of Israel as judgement for their sin. He was trying to get their attention. He had warned them to obey, and they chose not to. They repeatedly did evil in His sight. But that doesn’t apply here.
Earthquakes are mentioned in the Bible. God used one to set Paul free from jail (Acts 16:26) and Jesus said they were a foreshadowing of the end times.
Matthew 24:7
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes.
But that doesn’t make them good.
Thousand of people have died, thousands more are suffering and God caused it.
Does that mean God is not good?
No, it means we don’t understand.
The Bible says that God is good, it says what He does is good and even if we don’t understand it, we need to believe it.
Love,
Jill
